9. 9월 9일 (금) ‘모든 민족을 사랑하며 살라!’ 창 21:8-21

본문 관찰과 묵상

사라가 아기를 낳지 못하여 애굽 여인 하갈을 데려다가 아브라함의 첩이 되게 하였다. 그가 임신하자 임신못한 주인을 경멸하였다. 하나님이 사라의 태를 열어 이삭을 낳았다. 이번에는 이스마엘이 이삭을 놀렸다. 사라가 화가나 쫓아내라고 하였다. 아브라함이 떡과 물 한 가죽부대를 메워 하갈과 첫 아들을 나가게 하였다. 물이 떨어져 죽게 되었을 때 소리내어 울었다. 하나님이 소리 들으시고 눈을 밝혀 샘을 보게하고 살게 하셨다. 하나님이 그 아이가 큰 민족을 일으키게 하리라고 약속하셨다. 하갈은 그 아이의 아내를 자신같은 애굽여인을 얻어 주었다.

QT를 통하여 듣는 주님의 음성

아브라함의 장자는 애굽여인 하갈에게서 난 ‘이스마엘’(하나님이 들으셨다)이었다. 그는 아랍의 조상이 되었다. 그러나 사라에게서 난‘이삭’(웃음)을 약속의 자손으로 야곱의 12지파를 통하여 이스라엘을 세웠다. 팔레스타인도 이스라엘도 아브라함이 조상이다. 하나님의 약속대로 아랍과 이스라엘이 번성하였다. 아랍인이 다 무슬림은 아니다. 기독교도 들도 있다.

결단과 적용

하나님은 아랍인도 유대인도 사랑하신다. 우리도 모든 민족을 사랑하여야 한다. 아랍인들 중에 기독교인도 무슬림도 있다. 무슬림은 이슬람교도를 말한다. 그들은 아브라함이 이삭을 바친 것이 아니고 이스마엘을 바쳤기에 자신들이 정통이고 이스라엘은 가짜라고 배격한다. 이슬람교는 거짓의 기초위에 세워졌기에 하나님이 다스릴 것이다. 이스라엘의 종교지도자들이 예수를 죽이는 것이 옳다고 하였다. 이슬람도 예수는 하나님이 아니라 선지자이고 알라가 하나님이라고 우긴다. 존 오트버그의 말대로 옳은 답이 필요한 것이 아니라 사랑이 필요하다. 하나님은 장남 이스마엘, 차남 이삭을 사랑하셨다. 우리도 사랑함이 마땅하다. 사랑이신 예수님을 전하여 저들도 구원받게 하여야 한다.

Observation and meditation on the text

Sara who could not have a child forced Abraham to take Hagar an Egyptian woman as a concubine to have a child. When Hagar was pregnant, she began to mock her master, Sarah. When God opened the womb of Sarah and gave birth to Isaac, Ishmael mocked Isaac. Outraged, Sarah asked Abraham to kick them out of their house. Abraham gave Hagar food and a skin of water to leave from him with Ishmael. When they were running out of water and doomed to die, Hagar cried. God heard her cry and opened her eyes to see a well of water to be saved. And God promised that Ishmael would establish a great nation. Hagar got an Egyptian woman to be Ishmael’s wife.

I hear the voice of the Lord through QT

The first son of Abraham was ‘Ishmael’ (God heard) from Egyptian woman Hagar. He became the ancestor of the Arab. However, God chose ‘Isaac’(laughter) from Sarah to establish Israel through the 12 tribes of Jacob. Abraham was the Father of both Philistines and Israel. As God promised, both were prosperous. All Arabians are not Muslims though. There are many Christians too.

Decisions and applications

God loves Arabians and Jews. Likewise, I am called to love all nations. There are many Christians and Muslims among the Arab. Muslims are the worshipers of Allah, which is Islam. They considered themselves as the orthodox descendants Abraham based upon their fiction that it was not Isaac but Ishmael whom Abraham offered to God. Since Islam was established upon the false foundation, I do believe that God will judge them. However, Jewish religious leaders declared that it was right for them to crucify Jesus. Islam also declare that Jesus is only a prophet, not God, and the only God is Allah. It is right for John Ott berg that what we need is to love them with the love of Jesus instead of considering them to be our enemies. God loved Abraham’s first and second son alike. Therefore, it is appropriate for me to love all the people so that they may also be saved by Jesus whom we pronounce and declare to be the Lord.
