 예수님은 갈릴리 호수(디베랴, 게네사렛 호수)에서 고기잡던 어부들을 찾으셨다. 어부들이 그물을 씻고 있었다. 말씀을 들으러 모여든 무리들과 구별된 그들은 먹고 사는 문제 때문에 말씀도 듣지 못하고 있었다. 

 그들을 보시고 예수님은 시몬의 배에 오르셨다. 그 배에서 해변에 있는 무리들 을 가르치셨다. 그리고 베드로에게 깊은데에 그물을 내리라고 하셨다. 베드로는 밤새 그물질을 하였음에도 고기를 잡지 못했다고 했다. 

 고기 잡는데 전문가인 어부도 실패할 때가 있다. 우리 모두의 이야기이다. 실패 자를 주님은 찾으신다. 주님에게 관심없는 자들을 찾으신다. 주님의 말씀에 베드로는 전문가임을 포기하고 예수님의 말씀에 순종했다. 

 나의 고집과 교만으로 실패를 경험한 나는 베드로처럼 정직하게 실패를 인정하고 순종하는가? 순종이 제사보다 더 낫다고 사무엘 선지자는 실패한 왕 사울에 게 말했다. (삼상 15:22-23). 말씀에 불순종한 사람들은 실패하였다. 

 승리하는 삶의 열쇠는 무엇인가? 순종이다. 베드로의 순종은 그물이 찢어질 정 도로 많은 고기를 잡게 되었다. 다른 배에 있는 동업자 야고보와 요한도 다 축복 을 받았다. 한 사람의 순종이 함께 하는 공동체의 승리가 되었다. 

 기적을 체험한 어부들은 예수님이 고기잡는 어부에서 사람낚는 어부가 되게 한 다는 말씀에 순종했다. 배와 그물을 버려두고 예수님을 좇았다. 그후로도 많이 실패하였지만 마침내 순종함으로 예수님의 증인이 되어 승리하였다. 

 내가 순종하면 공동체가 승리한다. 순종할 때 ‘우리 가운데서 역사하시는 능력대로 우리가 구하거나 생각하는 모든 것에 더 넘치도록 능히 하실 이에게 교회 안에서와 그리스도 예수 안에서 영광이 대대로 영원무궁하기를 원하노라 아멘’(엡 3:20-21). 

Jesus drew near to some fishermen who were so consumed with their livelihood that they showed no interest in hearing Him. Not only were they uninterested, they were also unsuccessful. One time Jesus got into Peter's boat when he had fished all night and had caught nothing. Jesus commanded him to throw his net into the deep. He obeyed. 

We are often like Peter and his crew. We need to humbly repent of our indifference, of trusting in our own expertise, of doing things our way. Jesus invites us to obey Him in faith. Obedience is better than sacrifice (1 Sam. 15:22-23). 

What is the key to a victorious life? Obedience. Peter's obedience resulted in bursting nets when he has failed to catch anything all night. His partners in the other boat, James and John, also reaped the benefits of Peter's obedience. One man's obedience led to a blessing for the entire community. 

In order to live a victorious life, we must be obedient to Jesus, who calls us to be fishers of men. Peter and the disciples left their boats and their nets behind and followed Jesus. Will you? Will you choose to be a blessing to your family and to our church?
